“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:36-38)
The second core value of the Church of God of Prophecy is, “harvest.” Jesus looked out across the multitudes around him and was moved with the compassion he had for them. They were lost and were wandering aimlessly through life without clear guidance. They had become pawns to the religious leaders, just numbers and impersonal objects to support their pride and lifestyle, they needed someone to give them direction.
Upon noticing this scene unfolding in front of Him, Jesus pointed out to his followers that there is a great harvest surrounding them (and us) that must be gathered. It was not something symbolic, but an actual, visible reminder of the ‘lost’ condition of mankind, and the need for workers to help complete the work.
We live in a day of exploding population and a generation that has become increasing sinful and separated from God. We have a choice…we can condemn it and criticize, or we can set our hearts toward making a difference. After all, wasn’t that the gist of the Great Commission in Matthew 28?
The Church of God of Prophecy will become intentional and purposeful in reaching the harvest, with an emphasis on youth and children. We will direct budgets, expend manpower and plan for greater harvesting in our churches and ministries, and we will pray (Core Value one) that the Lord of the Harvest will send laborers to help in this great work.
I invite you to join me today in this great quest…and to change our world.
