John M. Cassidy, 76, a resident of Cleveland, went to his final resting place, Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012.
He was born on Oct. 29, 1936, in Lancaster, S.C., and was the son of the late Zellie Irene Cassidy. His brothers: Fred Thomas Cassidy, James Alexander “Bill” Cassidy and Glenn Allen “Buddy” Sutherland also preceded him in death.
He was retired from Cleveland State Community College. He led the Monday morning gospel singing at the Senior Center for more than 10 years. He was the chair for the Committee on Aging and former chair of the Cleveland Chapter of AARP.
He was a deacon and long-standing member of the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Martha M. Cassidy; his children, Jeff L. Cassidy and his wife, Regina, of Murfreesboro, Gayla Brewer and her husband, Ray, of Chattanooga; his sisters: Ellen Ann Calfee and Glenda Gay Shroyer and her husband, Frank, all of Cleveland; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, from the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy with the pastor of the Peerless Road Church, Brian Sutton and Pastor Charles Vaughan of Victory Drive Church of God officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The body may be viewed at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service.
The family request that memorials be made to the Restoration Fellowship Church, 675 Dejarnette Lane, Murfreesboro TN 37130.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes.
